This Genius project is getting closer to a close and its kind of nice, but also kind of sad its going to be over. Last week I said I would do better. I did but not to whatever solar system I was shooting to. There will be a clip of music that I've been working on. It is inspired by Logic's "Black Spiderman" I don't necessarily agree with all that he is rapping, singing about, but the song he made is beautiful at least in my opinion. I wrote some lyrics to go along with it, just haven't finished making the music to go along with it itself. The hardest part about this whole process is finding how do I get all these crazy sounds in my head to actually come into this reality. I still struggle with being able to do that. I decided that last weeks song was terrible so I am not going to be torturing you guys. There are around 7 different lyrics I also haven't show you guys, I might at some point like the very last week, but some of it is kind of personal. I learned how to play the melody for the short beat by going on YouTube and figuring out how it is played. I then used my little piano to bash out some cords, then went in and fine adjusted, and added in notes to complete the cord making it sounds nicer. Next I found a bass guitar instrument and played some accompanying lower cords to go along with the melody. I then thought wouldn't it be cool if I added an orchestra playing the same notes as the piano so I added that in along with the other two. Finally I needed a beat so I threw together some different kicks, claps, snares, and tried to make it correspond to the melody a little. Overall I think its ok, I could do better though. I am going to start working on my final song after this blog. I think it will be a slower song, lots of beautiful piano cords, It'll have verses, some kind of hook. Maybe it will go 1# on the bill board chart, maybe it will be good enough for me to fall asleep thinking that was alright. Ultimately I didn't learn as much as I should have from last week, but I took some baby steps so that is important. I did try signing with some of the audio effects and some of them made me sound like an 80's rock singer so that was pretty cool. Its amazing how deep into the details you can go, and that has taken a lot of my time away from making music, but I'm having fun so isn't really that big of a deal. Good luck to everyone else on their projects.

Week 5 Blog

Well this week and last week didn't go as planned to say the least. I almost got done with the song I was planning to put it on the music website but It was going to take me a little while longer. I had some things come up and I had no motivation to work on this project. What I am currently working on is making song more stable as in not having it change every 30-45 seconds to a different melody and beat. I struggle with actually being ok with what I make, or I cant decide what to go with and I just do everything together. I think in this next song I did a better job at that. I also experimented with voice changing software, on a serious level. To whoever makes music professionally, you guys are so talented. The singers who sings along, and songwriters who write the lyrics they also so talented as well. Unless you listen to mumble rap where only the beat is ok and everything else is trash. A lot of time goes into everything. Just from making a beat, to actually putting all the different sounds together. Then writing lyrics that fit with the flow. Finally you sing along and try to compliment whatever music you make without sticking out like sore thumb. Every week I'm figuring out more and more about how to use the software more efficiently. Ive been watching more youtube and the things some of those dudes do is incredible. I don't have the time to be those people, but I have time to do what I do best which is find a BS way to make something that sounds decent. I know I complain a lot about the quality of my blogs. I got to work on not doing the blog the night before it is due....Ask any questions if you have any questions about what I am doing.

week 4 Dirt roads and some country tunes

*(insert generic blog opening here)
Didn't even do a super short podcast this week, instead did a song about 4 mins I think. This week I made my second song, a country song. I spent about an hour writing just the lyrics themselves. Then almost two hours just going through and editing it. Singing it, and singing it to the different Guitars in the song. In the song I went through the main themes of country music. Everything from dirt roads to country girls, and the world's greatest romance. When I was practicing singing the song and even though it is silly in its nature, I still got really into it and even had some tears in my eyes at the end of the singing the song. I am glad I can get so invested into it. Part of the reason why I am doing a country type song is because in January I will be moving out to the country. Where I feel like all my life my heart has always been. Hopefully I can move the inner country boy or country girl in all of you guys.

You may notice in the song that I don't stick with the same guitar tune throughout with each different stanza of lyrics I'm singing. The story behind that is I was trying to make some cool sounding Guitar chords on Fl Studio. After like an hour and a half I didn't have anything really good at all, and the guitars on the software sound like electric pianos. I knew their was a smarter way to have a great guitar melody so I went to my friend google and looked up free song loops. I found this one website where people can upload their sound loops and after signing up its free to use. They have all these different types of instruments and I went to acoustic guitar and it has over 3,000 different sound loops just for that one instrument. That was pretty awesome, and some of the dudes spent like hours just trying to make the perfect guitar chord progression. They used reverb on it, mixed and mastered that sound till it sounded like an angel. I couldn't decide which one to choose so I have five different ones in the song. Each stanza of lyrics has a different guitar melody than anything in the song, and a different singing style to go along with it. I had trouble figuring out how I was going to transition from one stanza to the next with the music itself having its melody change.

In the end I learned some valuable takeaways. One keep your lyrics short and simple due to me having to cut some for this song. Two start sooner in the week so you doing some of it the night before. Three, learn the steps to save the rap game, and all music that needs any kind of saving. Country music for me falls into that Category. On a side-not I included Thomas's freestyle rap he made on an early beat I made. I didn't know he had done it but stumbled across it and thought it was fire. I asked his permission to include it on my music website. Good luck to all you other bloggers in your dangerous trip through High School.
