Blog 2.1 The Steven Ray Adventures

Steven Ray Journal 1/24/19.

Today is a new day, and this week a new week. When I came to this amazing realization I decided it was time to show my class and the world my
amazing calligraphy skills.

(Second image is father away so you can't see all the mistakes close up)

This from the first time of me practing calligraphy. I came in with the expectation that I would be have the most beautiful handwriting in the world, unfortunately that didn't come true, but its probably just a universal balance thing since im already the most beautiful man alive. "Jokes" aside I was actaully kinda surprised how good I started out on my a's. I felt that the farther I got along practing the worse and worse I got. A have a couple theories on why this may be true. One I kinda lost focus a little bit as I was trying to make the letters and numbers. Second theory is that there was a time or two I had my pen turned the wrong way and that screws it up a bit when you start writing. Final theory is that it is a combination of the first two theories plus the fact that I very inexperienced. This is what I did this week and hopefully next week I can become just a little bit better.

For next week my goal is to finish the entire alphabet pratice worksheets. I also will give those sheets to Mrs. Sutter so she can grade me at my starting level, and from there I can get some feedback and hopefully apply it to this project. As a spoiler I also might drop a picture of some calligraphy rap lyrics, or maybe along with a beat which may or may not be included on my final goose goose mixtape. Just in case any of you had any confusion I am still working on my goose goose mixtape and already have a few songs pretty planned out and some beats already made for those songs.

As always if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions feel free to do so.

  1. I can totally relate to how your letters/numbers get worse with time. Honestly, I just think it is the nib. It's a horrible way to do calligraphy unless you have been working on it forever, or maybe not be just a starter. I do think it is kind of fun and gives you a good feeling when you see how good some of your letters or numbers come out. I hope for the best of luck to you and also on your mixtape!

  2. I like how you are continuing your goose goose mixtape Steven. Seeing people continuing their genius hour long after the project is completed is pretty admirable in my opinion. For your caligraphy rap, Steven you got to aim to have it as free-flowing as the art of calligraphy is I would say.

Steven, your main intention of your project was to improve your handwriting, do you think it's been helpful in that regard so far? Since I'm learning shorthand it's probably actually worsening my writing, or at least worsening my spelling of things. For instance, instead of spelling "well," I'm suppose to spell it like "wl." I think calligraphy should help your penmanship unless you do it subconsciously, but as long as it requires your consxious attention in how and what you are writing, you should improve.
